The Defence Force Welfare Association (DFWA) and the Superannuated Commonwealth Officers Association (SCOA) are currently appealing to the Australian government for a more just and equitable indexation of pensions. Currently the government is maintaining its stance that indexing pensions to the CPI is the best option. Both organisations disagree with this, for the following reasons: - Three parliamentary inquiries have recommended changes to the current arrangements
- The Australian Bureau of Statistics stated that the CPI does not reflect the true cost of living
- The Matthews Review of Pension Indexation, used to justify the current scheme, drew flawed conclusions on several points
CAP fully supports these two organisations in their fight for just and appropriate indexation. We spoke up in support of their actions during our election campaign in 2008 and will continue to stand alongside them and assist their cause in whatever way possible.
