Consultation on the future development of closed school sites appears to have taken place without a legal signed contract between the ACT Government and the consultants, GHD, according to Community Alliance spokesperson, Jane Tullis. "I was shocked to be told today by an officer in the Chief Minister's Department that no contract was available and furthermore that no signed contract existed for the GHD consultation." "If this is true this means that all of GHD's school consultations have proceeded without a signed contract in place, and the question has to be asked: 'is that legal'?" Mrs Tullis said. "According the Chief Minister's Department officer, this type of thing is not unusual," said Mrs Tullis. "But we expect better for a contract worth $244,819." "We know that this whole GHD consultation appears to have been carried out with excessive haste and corner-cutting, and but the absence of a consultant contract would have to be negligent." "If also seems unreasonable that those preparing submissions have not been able to access such a contract to see the parameters of the consultation as specified in the contract," said Mrs Tullis. "This is the latest in a long line of sham consultations conducted by this government. It stands in stark contrast to the participatory approach of the Community Alliance Party."
