The Community Alliance Party will be launching its policy on Carers, the Aged and People with a Disability today outside the public entrance to the Legislative Assembly Building at 12:30 pm. Below are the key policy statements for the launch.

CARERS

  • Greater recognition of carers and the fact that they save the ACT over $500 million per year.
  • Introduction of a Carers’ Card, to provide a range of benefits and discounts to the 43, 000 unpaid carers of people with disabilities and the aged.

AGED

  • Plan for the future by integrating the needs of older people into a long-term strategic plan for the ACT.
  • Delivering services to where people are, earmarking undeveloped land within safe walking distance of existing services and facilities for elderly accommodation.
  • Support the appropriate indexation of Superannuation and Defence Force pensions.

PEOPLE WITH A DISABILITY

  • Co-location of therapy services with special education schools.
