Promises of increased funding for selected disability support services, while welcome, do not reflect the needs expressed by parents and carers of children with disabilities for the last four years, according to James Sizer, Community Alliance Party candidate for Brindabella.

While the promise of extra funding for Therapy ACT and therapy in playgroups is welcome, the package fails to promise one of the key things parents have desperately wanted," says Mr Sizer.

According to Mr Sizer, there is an overwhelming argument that therapy services should be co-located with special education services—at preschools, primary and secondary schools.

"The Community Alliance has already committed to provide co-located services, which was warmly received at the forum," said Mr Sizer.

"At the moment, parents and carers of school aged children must collect their children from school and transport them across town to Therapy ACT. Parents have long expressed frustration at this unnecessary burden, and it is high time the government did something to meeting this need," said Mr Sizer.

"The package fails to recognise the need for therapy for children older than preschool aged, despite this need being made clear to the Minister for Education at a recent special education election forum," said Mr Sizer.

We all see the government has hundreds of millions of dollars to spend in an election campaign, but there seems to be little for needy groups.
