All future retail energy generation in the ACT would be produced from clean and renewable sources under the sustainability policy released by the Community Alliance Party today.
"Our energy policy focuses on the future; we see the need for the ACT to produce its own energy, something we have not done for fifty years; we need to break the tie to old 20th century coal generated power and focus on renewable sources," said James Sizer Candidate for Brindabella, when he launched the Community Alliance Party's energy policy today. "We aim to develop a long-term strategic plan for sustainability in the ACT, part of this has to be a comprehensive energy plan to address energy use, costs and security of supply across the ACT. We have been advocating for a long time that this must be done in consultation with the community and stakeholders," said Mr Sizer. "Energy is part of our greater sustainability focus on planning for the future of the ACT." "We also want to aim encourage businesses involved in environmentally friendly energy provision to come to the ACT," says Mr Sizer. "We present some very real and practical solutions for people to get involved, such as our proposal for solar co-operatives where people can buy into a solar energy production facility built onto a government facility like a school building." "We also the proposed water purification plant at the Lower Molonglo Water Quality Control Centre and the proposed desalination plant until there has been a satisfactory demonstration of the need, economic viability and safety for people and the environment," he said. "And we will seek to ensure new developments install individual water meters for every household and business." "The Community Alliance is also keen to introduce an organic waste recycling service, especially for residents without gardens, and encourage those with gardens to do their own composting." "Our aim is to have a sustainable vision for the ACT that everyone is part of." Contact: James Sizer |
