People with Disabilities

The Community Action Party recognises that people with disabilities encounter barriers to participating in community life as well as discrimination on a daily basis. The Party will act to ensure that people with disabilities are treated with respect, dignity and equality.

The Party will work with people with disabilities, carers, health care professionals, government, advocacy groups, and the wider community to develop an adequately funded and comprehensive approach to directly address the needs of people with disabilities.

Community

The Community Action Party is committed to working with communities. It sees a partnership between voluntary community organisations, government and the wider community as essential for building community wellbeing in the ACT.

Communities are the building blocks of society and the cement that holds it together. Everyone in the ACT belongs to several communities. The neighbourhood is one example, but there are many others based on shared interests, shared values, shared identities, shared aspirations or shared life experiences.

Carers

The Community Action Party values the enormous contribution that carers make to the ACT community. Few other groups work as hard for so little financial reward or social recognition. They are amongst the poorest, most disadvantaged and least supported members of our community.

Business

The Community Action Party seeks to foster a healthy business sector to serve as a vital foundation of a prosperous ACT. The Party will work with businesses, communities, and government agencies to encourage the growth of businesses that are community friendly, environmentally sustainable, and socially responsible.

Arts and Culture

The Community Action Party places a high value on arts and culture in building and maintaining a vibrant community. This is especially important given the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on our arts community.

In many ways, we benefit from being residents of the national capital. The ACT hosts many national artistic and cultural institutions, but this privileged position cannot be taken for granted. The Party will be vigilant in protecting these national assets for the enjoyment of ACT residents and visitors.

The Aged

The Community Action Party is committed to working with elderly people to help develop a cohesive community that is inclusive of all ages.

The Party recognises that the needs of people change as they age. The Party will work with the elderly, carers, relevant agencies, and the wider community to support 'active ageing': making ageing a positive experience for individuals and the community.

Administration

The Community Action Party seeks to improve the administration of the ACT as well as strengthen the relationship with the Commonwealth Government. The Party will emphasise the role of the ACT as a municipal government, a self-governing territory, a city-state, and the national capital.
